Omaha Comm. Activist, Dist. 2 City Co. Candidate, David Mitchell charged w/sexual assault of a minor

Updated: Nov 15, 2020

This evening, in Omaha, a well known community activist, and candidate for District 2 City Council, 27 year old

David Mitchell has been arrested and charged with first degree sexual assault of a minor. Allegedly the incident occurred in 2014, but wasn't brought to the attention of the Omaha Police department until 2019. This might come as a surprise to many in the community, because Mitchell, who was already out on bond for an alleged robbery from 2019, is very active in our community. Mitchell has been involved with organizing protests, for causes, such as the George Floyd murder, and the 11Worth Cafe, after the owners' son posted racial posts on Facebook. Most recently one of the causes he has been active in, is the #FreeEarnestJackson movement.

I for one hope none of this is true for many reasons. Although, I don't know him personally, whenever there is a community cause or event, you can almost most certainly find him there. Not only is he a business owner of "Gamers", but again he's very active in the community. As a matter of fact, he's hosting an upcoming "Homeless Feeding and Hair Cutting" event in November. Aside from that, he also sponsors various North Omaha programs, and he educates the community on financial literacy.

After being charged and arrested this evening, he made a Facebook post stating, "These charges are one hundred percent false, the system is finding anyway to take me down. I can’t make an comments on the current case for legal reasons." This is certainly understandable, in order to not jeopardize ones case. This is a developing story, so stay tuned for more details.
