Six-eight people were taken into custody during what was believed to be a police standoff in North Omaha near 42nd Grand Avenue. It actually turned out to be an Omaha police SWAT team, called upon to assist officer's on the homicide unit with a search warrant for a suspect in a homicide. One person, Shane Holbert, 21, was arrested, in connection with a shooting near 60th & Arbor Streets. Police investigators believe he was the one who fatally shot Playontae Wilson, 20, near Arbor Villa Apartments early Sunday morning. Officers also arrested Adrian Jones Jr., 26, on homicide charges.
Early Sunday morning police were called out to 5 shootings. But two of those reported shootings turned out to be fatal. In the early hours of Sunday morning, there were reports of shootings near 27th and Monroe St., 24th St. and Patrick Ave., and Saddle Creek Rd. and Cass St. However, the first fatal shooting took place near the Arbor Villa Apartments. But before police arrived, they found a 20-year-old Playonte Wilson had already died. Later around 3 a.m., police were called to the scene of a second reported homicide near 49th and Pinkney Streets. Police found another male victim dead upon their arrival. Around 4 a.m. Sunday morning, the Omaha police surrounded a house near 42nd Grand Ave. (See video below)
All 4 intersections were taped off nearby Central Park Elementary School. Around 6 - 8 people can be seen taken into custody from the house. Hours later, around 11 a.m. Sunday morning, firefighters were called out with the jaws of life. Allegedly they were needed because the home that was being surrounded, had a chained or locked area inside that needed to be broken into. This is a developing story. So more details to follow.
