Today, I am sad to report that NeNe Leakes' husband Gregg Leakes has passed away at the age of 66 from colon cancer.
After a long battle dealing with colon cancer, Gregg Leakes has passed away peacefully, in his home, surrounded by all of his children, very close loved ones, and his wife Nene Leakes, the family said in a statement today. The statement continued to say, "We ask that you pray for peace and strength over their family, and allow them to mourn in private during this very difficult time". This is the statement that was provided by their publicist Ernest Duke.
Back in May of 2018, was when Gregg was first diagnosed with Stage 3 colon cancer. And I can recall around that time watching episodes of the "RHOA" when Gregg had announced that he was diagnosed with Stage 3 colon cancer. And how him, his wife, and their family, and all their loved ones were dealing with his illness.
Now a lot of people, including his fans, was under the impression that Gregg was in remission from his illness. But then a few days ago, before his death, NeNe Leakes had revealed that her husband was transitioning to the other side, and dying.
NeNe had shared that on social media after being heckled by a fan at their bar. One of the patrons at the bar was having like a birthday celebration, and they were kind of upset because NeNe didn't tell them Happy Birthday. But knowing that her husband was transitioning at that time, and soon to be passing away, she wasn't really in a celebratory mood. But she did later come grab the mic at her lounge and e explain the reason why she had reacted that way. And she followed up with a post on Instagram, saying "Broken" with praying hands and a broken heart emoji.
I'm sure after a lot of people seen her post on social media, and realized what she was going through, they understood why she may have come across as rude. What she had actually said when somebody thought she was being rude to somebody who was celebrating their birthday, was that...
"I want to be at peace. If you see me, you see my son, Okay, give us a lot of love. My husband is transitioning to the other side. You don’t know what we’re dealing with right now. We walked in this lounge because we had to walk in this lounge because this is our business.
“So, when people approach and say, ‘You’re rude because you don’t want to say happy birthday,’ my husband is at home dying. I don’t want to say ‘happy birthday,’ okay?”
